CDC Budget Consultation
/in News /by ClerkCherwell District Council are consulting on a balanced budget position. People can have their say from 22 November, with the consultation drawing to a close on 23 December.
As you know, local government has been navigating financial pressure for some time now, with inflation, austerity, and uncertainty about the funding councils receive from central government all playing a role.
With this budget we have put a great deal of work into absorbing these pressures by finding more effective ways of working. That means we’ve been able to protect our vital frontline services and minimize the impact on residents.
The council is proposing £1.02m of new efficiency savings and is seeking public feedback on proposed increases to fees for several specialist professional services. It is also considering a modest £6 or £10 annual increase in garden waste collection fees to better reflect the cost of providing the service while ensuring it remains in line with what neighbouring local authorities charge. The council also proposes to put up its share of the council tax by £5 a year for band D properties.
Cherwell District Council are dedicated to supporting all our communities and creating a Cherwell that meets today’s diverse needs while preparing for tomorrow’s challenges and opportunities. With this in mind, as part of this consultation, we are also asking for people’s opinions on a new vision and strategy, to reinforce our commitment to become an even more modern, inspiring council focusing on what matters most to our residents.
You may wish to help us promote this consultation by sharing the council’s official communications on Facebook, X/Twitter and Instagram. If you have questions about the budget consultation, please contact

Local Plan 2042 – Consultation – Finish 25 February 2025
/in News /by ClerkAll comments must be submitted by 11.59pm on Tuesday 25 February 2025.

The Local Plan will guide our decisions on planning applications and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development. It is a Plan to meet our development needs, to respond to climate change, to protect the environment and to support our local economy and communities.
The Plan sets out a vision and proposes homes, employment land, infrastructure and other essential services required to support the local community over the plan period.
In making your comments we would like you to consider whether the Plan is ‘sound’ and whether it complies with the necessary legal requirements for plan making. The Planning Inspectorate has produced a useful guide to making representations at this stage of the plan making process. Our guide is also available to view.
All representations received will be submitted to the Secretary of State for consideration as part of the Local Plan examination. We do not make significant changes to the Plan after we have received your comments. Instead they are considered by the appointed Planning Inspector.
